IN MEMORIAM.

The news that Mrs Barraud had passed away after a few days’ illness has come as a shock and very real sorrow to many, especially to those who had the privilege of her friendship, To them she seems to have possessed in a very rare degree those qualities which are essentially called womanly—great sweetness of disposition, united to high principle and unfailing consideration for others, shown constantly in word and deed in the course of her honoured and useful life. There are two things which we believe she was never known to do ; she never spoke unkindly of any living creature, or ever refused any help that it was in her power to give, ; so that Russell Lowell’s lines might almost have been written for her. She doeth little kindnesses, Which most leave undone, or despise ; For naught that sets one heart at ease, And giveth happiness or peace Is low esteemed in her eyes. Very true sympathy is felt for all the members of her family,- by whom she was so greatly and deservedly beloved.
