The headquarters of the Bank of New South Wales in this Colony are to be shifted from Christchurch to Wellington early in May. The Chief Inspector (Mr W. G-. Rhind) has arranged to take Sir Walter Buller’s residence on the Terrace from the Ist of May. At the quarterly meeting of the Wei- . f lington Licensing Committee on Friday, applications for transfers will be heard as follow :—Shamrock Hotel, Mary Blackley . to James T. Gray; Princess Hotel, Michael Hodgins to Geo. W. Chandler; Queen’s Hotel, James Meyrick to Henry F. Jqnes ; Albert Hotel, James Briggs to F. Falirenback; Grosvenor Hotel, W. C. Wilson to J. O’Kane. At the quarterly meeting of the Wellington Suburbs Licensing Committee on Wednesday, an application for 'the transfer of the license of the White Horse Hotel, Ngahauranga, from John Reynolds to Robert Cunningham was granted. Mr Hislop appeared for the applicant. A meeting of the Wellington Agricultural and Pastoral Association, to consider alterations and amendments in the rules is to be held on the 27th inst. The usual monthly meeting of. the Wellington Operative Tailors’ Society was held in the Trades Hall on Wednesday, Mr C. Lamb (president) in the chair. Two new members were elected. Correspondence was read from the Christchurch Union relative to low prices accepted for clothing by the Government, and after some discussion it was resolved to instruct the delegates to the Trades Council to bring the matter under the notice of that body. The new rules under the Conciliation and Arbitration Act were further discussed and finally passed, and the secretary was instructed to take the necessary steps to register the Society. The Picnic Committee submitted a balance-sheet showing a small surplus, which was adopted. Messrs Mines and Morison were elected delegates to the Trades Council, and Mr Morison was also appointed to represent the Society on the Eight Hours Demonstration Committee. During the last two days the General Lending Board under the Advances to Settlers Act have approved of about 50 or 60 additional applications for advances, the majority of them being from the Gtago and Southland districts. The amount represented by these applications is .£6OOO, so that in all a sum of J 515,000 has now been authorised for lending out. The next! meeting of the Board takes place on Monday next.
