AQUATICS.

Harding has accepted Sullivan's challenge to a sculling match on the Thames. The third heat of the Arawa Sailing Club's 18-f ooters was re-sailed on Saturday between the lona and Dauntless, owing to the latter going to the assistance of a boat which had capsized during the. previous race. Though the weather cleared at the start, the boats had only roiinded the Kaiwarra mark buoy some minutes when the wind rapidly increased, and rain fell again. It soon became apparent that the Dauntless, which had no deck on, was in danger of swamping, and there was considerable excitement among those watching her, although very little fear regarding the safety of the crew was felt, as they were provided with life-belts and there was no ballast in the boat. Mr Chalmers, finding it impossible to keep the water out, decided to beach her at Kaiwarra. The Eona sailed down, but the crew of the Dauntless were ashore before she arrived. The crew of the lona, after a very trying time, sailed their boat over the line about twenty minutes to 6 o'clock. Mr Chalmers has, however, lodged a protest against the lona, on the ground that ballast was put

into her after Thursday night, which is against the rules. Dunedin, February 24. At the Otago Yacht Club's Regatta the First-class Yacht Race Was won by the Anonyma, and the Second-class Yacht Race by the Christabel, a Moeraki boat.
