MARTINBOROUGH.
Martinbokough, February 25. A house in the occupation of Mrs Soughton had a narrow escape of being burned down on Friday. The shingles were in flames, but a few of the residents soon extinguished the fire. ■ /.: The settlers at the back country have had splendid burns this month. It has been the best season for bush fires we have had for some years, but the grass has suffered. The grass seed crops are verylight, and the grass on the plain has completely withered up. There were hopes of having a new post office here a short time back, but the matter seems to have died out. This place is growing fast, and certainly the post office is needed.
