MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

Great difficulty was experienced at the Upper Hutt on Wednesday in obtaining Justices to conduct the business of the Magistrate's Court, and had it not been forthe opportune arrival of a Justice from the Lower Hutt no sitting of the Court could have been held. The difficulty is becoming very pronounced, and steps ought to be at once taken to remedy it. Messrs J. Wilkins-arid J. Benge, Justices, presided at: Wednesday's sitting of the Upper Hutt Magistrate's Court. Joseph Paul was fined 10s, with costs, for assaulting Mr Hagan at the Upper Hutt on February 12. Mr Wilford' appeared for a man named Edward Francis, who was charged -with, assaulting Hagan on the same day. The informationjwas dismissed. A further charge against Francis of having , used obscene language towards Mary Hagan was also dismissed. Elizabeth Urry, for whom Mr Wilford appeared, was charged with a breach of the Infant Life Protection Act, 1893. The Bench postponed their decision for a month; In the civil action of Charles Cudby v. James Lamont, judgment was given for plaintiff, for whom Mr Wilford appeared, for £3 7s 6d, with costs. A man named Frederick Moore was charged before Mr Mnortin, S.M., on Friday, with disturbing a congregation assembled for public worship in the Mission Hall, Taranaki street. He was fined 60d, with .£1 14s costs, or in default one month's hard labour, and on a further charge of interfering with the conduct of divine service, he was convicted and ordered to pay 7s costs, in default to go to gaol for 24 bourn >'
