Washington, February 20. The Eothschilds and Morgan have issued a United States 4 per cent, loan of sixtytwo million dollars, payable in coin. The issue price is 113*, and they have reserved half the amount of issue. The Senate and the House of Eepresentatives have disagreed with regard to the vote for a cable to Hawaii, and a conference has been appointed to arrange, a settlement. New York, February 19. News has been received that the rebels in Colombia, South America, met the loyalist troops in battle at Santorgesa. The loss on each side was 200 killed, the rebels losing their general. Washington, February 20. A syndicate deposited 30,000,000 dollars of gold, which checked the run on the Treasury when it was within a day of depletion. A New York syndicate has applied for double the amount of the new bonds. Washington, February 21. The Free Silver Bill has been withdrawn in the Senate. The American loan was subscribed ten-, fold in New York within ten minutes. Washington, February 22. The House of Eepresentatives has again rejected the Senate's amendment in favour of a vote of half a million dollars towards the preliminary expenses of the cable to Hawaii.
London, February 20. Heavy applications are being made in London fcr the United States loan. Ottawa, February 22. The Dominion Government is discussing the question of the defence force. It has been suggested to arrange with the Imperial Government to send troops out. The Canadian Military Gazettee considers the present force is inadequate in the event of a civil emergency. San Francisco, February 25. Ex-Queen Liliukalani pleaded guilty to a charge of participation in the recentrevolt against the Government in Hawaii. She was sentenced to five years' imprisonment and ordered to pay a tine of .£IOOO. Instead of the sentence of imprisonment being carried into effect it is probable she will be depoitecl from the island.
