THE HEAVY RAINFALL.

TO THE EDITOR. Sib, Yesterday's surplusage of rain was the most efficient scavenger existing, for it cleansed all our street channellings, blocked up some of the drains, thereby pointing out to the Drainage Engineer the weak spots of Wellington's drainage system, although it caused Banks terrace and the lower levels adjacent thereto to become a veritable "slough of despond," arising from the slowly progressive and everlasting Mount Cook Gaol refuge. Will that gigantic work ever be completed, sir ? —I am, &c, Boanerges. 11th February, 1895.
