A well-attended meeting of the Friendly Societies' Demonstration Committee was held in St Patrick's Hall last week. The balance-sheet 'was adopted a, hearty vote of thanks was passed to the secretaries for the admirable manner in which they carried out .their duties, and for having kept down expenses, which were less than last year.*' A cheque for M '4s, given by Bro. H. Eodgers, was presented to Bro. Flyger for having sold the largest number of tickets. Votes of thanks were also given to the Very Rev Father Devoy for the use of the hall, and to Bro. Rodgers for his donation. The meeting then adjourned for a month. A man named William Thompson was arrested by Constable McKinnon at the Upper Hutt on • Saturday, charged with being a lunatic hot under proper control. On Monday he was brought into Wellington, and as it was understood he had fallen off a dray and hurt himself, he was examined bV Dr Cahill, who ordered him to be sent to i the.
