AQUATICS.

The two heats of the 50yds dash, Wellington Swimming Club, were contested last week, in Te Aro baths. The water was first-class. The results were : —First heat —J. Glasgow, 1; H. Dacre, 2; H. Wilson, 3. Time, 42sec. Second heat—A. Duncan, 1 ; J. McKenzie, 2; F. Lawson and G. Read, 3, tie. Time, 36sec. The placed men swim in the final this evening. Mr W. Ross was starter and timekeeper. The president, Dr Chappie, was judge. The final heat of the 50yds dash, Wellington Swimming Club, was decided last week in Te Aro Baths, when J. Glasgow won, A. Duncan being second and 11. Wilson third. Glasgow swam a good race, just beating Duncan by about two feet. The winner’s time was 46sec. Mr W. Ross was starter and timekeeper, and the captain, Mr R. C. Renner, judge. The two heats of the 200yds Race, President’s Cup, Wellington Amateur Swimming Club, were decided on Saturday evening. The results were : —First heat— H. Wilson, 1; W. G2udin, 2; G. Read, 3. Second heat—-H. Dacre, 1; T. Evans, 2; E. J. Fleming, 3. The final heat of the 200yds race, president’s cup, Wellington Swimming Club, was decided on Monday, and resulted in a win for 11. Dacre, T. Evans being second and I-I. Wilson third. Mr W. Ross got the men away to a good start, and a fine race ensued, the handicap men leading until the last 30yds, when Dacre caught them and won by about three feet. Time, 3min 2 2-ssec. This ends the Club’s races until the Carnival, which takes place next month.

The final heat of the senior sculls, Wellington Rowing Club, was decided on Tuesday. The contestants were Prank Young and C. Poll, and a great number assembled to witness the event, as a close finish was expected. Both men got away together, and Poll led for half the distance, when Young caught him and a great struggle ensued, first one and then the other leading, and both steering very wildly. Young got across the lino and won the event, while Poll steered into the Queen’s Wharf. The Deputy-Captain, W. Ross, officiated as judge.
