Two scholarships of St. Patrick’s College, of the annual value of forty guineas each and each tenable for two years, have been won by Daniel O’Reilly (Waipawa) and Cornelius Daly (Hokitika). The Board of Governors of the College held their monthly meeting on Tuesday morning. Present—Messrs J. R. Blair (chairman) and J. Young, Rev J. Paterson and the Mayor of Wellington (Mr C. M. Luke). The Chairman reported that the condition of the finances was improving. An application having been received from Mr W. Chatfield, on behalf of the lessee of some sections in College street, for an extension of 21 years of the leases, which have 22 years yet to run, it was decided that the lessee’s only course was to surrender the sections, allow them to be put up for 44 years, and take his chance of securing them again. The secretary (Mr C. P. Powles) was unable to attend the meeting owing to indisposition, and his place was taken by Mr Dorset, secretary of the Board of Education. Christchurch:, January 23. At the Secondary Schools Conference this morning, Mr G.
