THE WAIRARAPA FUND.

Dunedin, December 19.

At a meeting of the Wairarapa Relief Fund Committee, a sub-committee reported recommending additions to allowances already made—that the grant to Mrs McDonald’s children be increased for seven years, the total to be £378 12s; the grant to Mrs McLeod to be increased to £52 per year for three years ; a grant of 6s per week to the girl Smith ; a grant of £2O to the widow of John Lewis, a passenger. In the case of the widow of Allen J. McLean, steward, the committee recommended that if the facts were found as represented she be allowed £52 per annum for three years and £26 for six years. In the case of the widowed mother (residing in London) of W. Holmes, steward, enquiry would be made on receiving the address. The Wellington Committee, who had practically no cases, would doubtless deal with this one, and also the case of Simpson’s widowed mother, who lives in Scotland. The report was adopted. The Secretary stated that the amount received so tar was £606, and the amount disbursed £252 12s. To meet cases as arranged, £658 3s Id would be required, in addition to the grant from the Clutha fund of £4OO.

It was resolved, seeing that by far the larger number of persons requiring relief are located in or near Dunedin, the Dunedin Committee should be the central body, to whom all the moneys should be sent, and that the balance remaining after all legitimate claims are met be returned pro rata to the different centres.
