DRAINAGE OF PETONE.
The poll upon the proposal of the Petone Borough Council to borrow the sum of £12,000 as a special loan for the purposes of drainage and street improvement took place at Petone on Wednesday, and was carried. The result of the poll is as follows : For the proposal ... ... 277 Against the proposal ... 35 There were three informal votes. A twothirds majority of the votes polled was required, and this was attained. It was also necessary that the two-thirds majority should represent half the ratable value of the district. Half the ratable value amounts to £8699 17s 6d, and the 277 favourable yoters represent property to the value of £9890 15s.
The Council will meet after the holidays and vigorously prosecute the work. The loan money has already been offered on favourable terms.
