At the conclusion of the ordinary meeting of the Loyal Manawatu Lodge, 1.0.0. F., M.TJ., at Palmerston North on Thursdayevening, Bro. F. Mowlem, who is leaving that town after a residence there of about 20 years, was entertained at a " social ” by the members of the lodge, and presented withahandsome g>»ld P.Gh jewel, bearing the following inscription: —“ Presented by the Loyal Manawatu Lodge, M.U., to Bro. FMowlem in recognition of his valuable services during the past 14 years as permanent secretary from 1880 to 1894.” Bro. W. T. Wood, P.P.G-.M., said the lodge was losing, in Bro. Mowlem, one of the best and truest Oddfellows that had ever entered that or any other lodge in New Zealand. Not only was the lodge losing- an esteemed brother, but Palmerston was losing one of its most respected townsmen. Mr and Mrs Mowlem. and family are going to Auckland. A grand find of Babylonian antiquities has taken place, including a statue from the palace where Belshazzar held his impious feast.
