AMATEUE SWIMMING CLUB.
Two heats of the 100yds race for the President’s Cup, Wellington Amateur Swimming Club, were contested last evening in Te Aro baths. The water was first-class. The results were : - First Heat.— E. C. Eenner, 1; J. C. Butler, 2 ; A. Tattle, 3. Time, lmin 31sec.
Second Heat.—H. Datce, 1; L. Partridge, 2; G. S. Hill, 3. Time, lmin 21sec.
The final heat of the 100yds Eace for the President’s Cup, Wellington Amateur Swimming • Club, took place on Saturday evening in Te Aro Baths, resulting in a win for H. Dacre, L. Partridge being second and E. C. Eenner third; G-. S. Hill, close up, a good fourth. The winner’s time was lmin 22sec. Mr W. Ross got the men away to an excellent start, and a fine race ensued, Dacre winning by only about two feet, Partridge being about the same distance from Eenner. Five competitors started, A. Tattle, the sixth man, being absent. The race was judged by the president, Dr W. A. Chappie. r STAE BOATING CLUB. The following are the crews which will represent the Star Boating Club at the Nelson regatta on New Year’s Day, viz.:— Senior .Fours—E. W. Wallace (bow), H. ,H. Dacre ;(2),' E. W. G. Strange (3), and G. Duncan (stroke). Ladies’ Plate crew —C. F. Minnitt (bow), H. L. Wiggins (2), F. Pownall (3), W. H. Morrah (stroke). Junior Fours—H. Palmer (bow), D. J. S. Burnes (2), E. L. Burnes (3), C. E. Matthews (stroke). Maiden Fours—A. H. Barnett (bow), E. Pownall (2), W. Wiggins (3), H. P. Blundell (stroke). The first heat of the Senior Fours was also rowed ou the 19th, the winning crew being composed of H. Eountree (bow), A. Sargeant (No. 2), H. Poll (No. 3), J. McKee (stroke), James (cox). They had the other crew —J. E. Gamble (bow), G. Parsons (No. 2), J. Naylor (No. 3), W. Simm (stroke), Brown (cox) —beaten a quarter of a mile from home, and won easily by a couple of lengths.
