ATHLETICS.

A set of seven instantaneous photographs of scenes at the finish of several of the races run at the amateur sports last Saturday has been shown to us. I hey were taken by Mr R. J. Hardie-Shaw, upon whose skill they reflect the highest credit. They are by far the best instantaneous photographs we have seen. The exposures vary from one 250th part of a second to one 450th part of a second. The various aththetes aud expressions of the runners and spectators are splendidly depicted, the close finish for the 120 hurdles, especially being a capital piece of work. The finish for the mile and 250 yards handicaps are also capitally taken, the expressions on the faces of the runners, not very flattering in some cases certainly, being shown with remarkable clearness. Christchurch, December 11.

At a meeting of the committee of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association to-night the recommendation of the Hawke’s Bay Club that the dates for the championship meeting at Napier should be February 22nd and 23rd was approved. A letter was received from the Association’s local offices at Auckland stating that the North Shore Club had cautioned five of its members for suspicious running at the recent meeting. The secretary was instructed to write to the men mentioned, endorsing the local club’s decision, and warning them that if they were reported again they would be dealt with severely.
