WELLINGTON MARKETS. Messrs Laery & Co. report current whole sale values as under: —

Tho Customs duties collected here last month amounted to .£22,907 10s Bd, as against ,£31,375 lis lid for the corresponding- month of last year, and .£26,400 3s Id for the previous month (April) of this year. Tho beer duty received here last month amounted to £3M 18s 3d, as against .£492 3s 2d for May of last year, and ,£574 14s 9d for the preceding month of the year. Messrs Murray, Roberts and Co. have received the following wool cablegram from their London house, Messrs Sanderson, Murray and Co., under date Ist June: — As compared with closing rates of last London sales, the market for greasy merino, extra good, shows no change. Medium to good has declined 5 to 7£ per cent, and inferior 10 per cent. Scoured merino, good to extra good, shows a decline of 5 per cent., and inferior, 7£ to 10 per cent. Crossbred greasy fine has declined 10 per cent. ; medium, 5 to 7\ per cent. ; and coarse has dropped a shade. The market is very irregular. 115,000 bales are held over. The following London cablegram has been received by the New Zealand Land Association (Limited): —Wheat —Market steadier. New Zealand wheats, average and long-berried, are respectively worth 23s and 21s 6d per 4961b5. C.i.f. quotations are unchanged. Freeman R. Jackson and Co.'s Johnsonville stock report (telegraphed June 6) is as follows •. —The cattle entered for the sale were prime, with tho exception of a few pens of light inferior cattle. Sheep wero well supplied, but were generally of indifferent quality. A few pens of really good were penned. Cattle—Best bullocks, £7 15s to £8 17s Gd ; one extra prime animal made -610; small bullocks, £6 10s to £7, equal to 19s the lOOlbs. Sheep —Best wethers, 13s; others, lis to 12s ; ewes, 8s to 10s 7d ; store wethers, 10s ; store owes, 4s 4d. Pigs—Small porkers, 20s to 265; young pigs, to 13s. No baconers entered. Auckland, Juno 1. Private cable advices relative to the monthly sale of kauri gum, which took place in London yesterday, are to the effect that three-quarter scraped advanced £2 per ton in price. This advance has taken place in spite of tho fact that the Morven had arrived at London with COO tons. London, June 1. The Bank of England returns published today show the total reserve in notes and bullion to be .£27,928,000, the proportion of reserve to liabilities being 68'90. Consols, 101*. Three months' bills are discounted at 1$ per cent. No. 1 best Scotch pig iron, f.o.b. in Clyde, 41s 9d, steady. New Zealand 4 per cent, inscribed stock is quoted at 100*; ditto, 103. June 3. Three months' bilk are quoted at 3f per cent.
