STREET PESTS.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—l was looking in a shop in Cuba street at half-past 2 o'clock yesterday afternoon, and noticed; four larrikins, about 18 or 19 years of age, making for me, I went away irom the Bhop and turned up Dixon street. I was there mobbed by them, one of them trying my pocket; this was a lad with a very pale face. They went down Herbert street into Manners street, and are about here frequently about 10 o'clock a.m., and in the afternoon In Manners street a woman had her pocket pioked but a short time ago, after having been mobbed by them in a similar fashion. There was no policeman seen around here fur an hour, and it would be interesting to know if any detective is supposed to be about this part to look after these lunaticlarrikins—colonial Dick Turpins—who make use of the most filthy and disgusting language also.—l am, &0,, James Smith Riddiford street, Newtown, May 2,1893.
