The immense popularity at Home of what are known as “ Missing Word Competitions ” has induced the proprietors of the New Zealand Mail to institute a MISSINGS WORD COMPETITION in connection with this journal. They desire to point out, however, that their competition as arranged for the Mail will not posses the objectionable lottery and gambling features of the Home competitions. The Missing Word Competition in this paper will NOT BE A GAMBLE OR A LOTTERY. but should prove a pleasant and intellectual pastime to those who take part in it. The great feature of the Home competitions was that with each Coupon the competitor sent in the sum of one shilling. The shillings of the competitors were “ pooled,” and given to the competitor successful in selecting the missing word, or, if several competitors were clever or lucky enough to hit upon the correct word, the sum accumulated was divided. The competition will remain open for a mouth, namely, until March 15» that is to say all Coupons received on or before Wednesday, March 15 will be admissible. Coupons in the issue of the Mail for March 10 will, of course, be good. 6. It does not matter which number of the Mail, from February 10 up till that of Maroh 10, the Coupon is taken—all will have the same ohunce. 7. All Coupons must be seut into this Office in dosed envelopes, the postage on which for town will be one penny, and for the country twopence, Insufficiently stamped letters will be refused.
