EDUCATION BOARD.
The Education Board held their usual monthly meeting on Wednesdayat their new offices. Those present were Messrs J. B. Blair (in the chair), G. Bsetham, F. 11. Fraser, J. Young, W. McCardle, A. W. Brown, Rev J. Paterson, W. C. Buchanan, M.H.K., and Dr Newman, M.E.R. The following resignations were accepted : Miss L. Cole, assistant teacher at Mangatainoka • Miss H. M. Evans, unattached pupil teacher; T. McNaught, Matarawa; Miss Mary Bowie, pupil teacher at Te Aro ; and Miss M. George, pupil teacher at the Terrace School. It was decided to appoint Miss A. Pearse as sewiDg teacher at Pahautanui, in place of Miss London, resigned. The Board granted live months’ leave of absence to Mr E. H. Mills. Mrs M. Ramage was appointed assistant at Paraparaumu at a salary of £SO per annum. The Chairman was instructed to attend to the matter of a shelter shed at Paraparaumu. It was decided to secure the nine-acre seotion offered for a school site at Ka.tawa. It was resolved that the Board undertake the minor repairs asked for liy the Eketahuna Committee. The question of making the proposed school at Newman a standard school instead of an infant school as proposed was left in the hands of the Chairman and Senior Inspector. In reply to a request from a deputation from Makakahi, the Board resolved to grant 5s per week for the rent of a temporary school there. _ The Opalci Committee was granted £lO in aid of a shelter shed. A grant of £3 10s was also voted to the Waihukike Committee for a new pump. It was decided to erect an additional class room at Shannon. A sum of £ls was granted the Oharin Committee for fencing the teacher’s residence, and a small amount was voted for fencing purposes at Wadestown. The Board agreed to the application of the Mount Cook School Com. mittee to erect galleries and supply dual desks to thß girls’ school there. The Thorndon school was granted a small sum for fencing purposes. Accounts amounting to £3120 5s 2d, including £293 for extras in connection with the now offices, were passed for payment. It was decided to have plans prepared for the proposed alterations at Dalefield. The Inspector, Mr Lee, was in. structed to visit Taratahi West and report on the question of opening a school at that place.
