BREACHES OF BEER DUTY ACT.

(per press association.) Westport, April 20. At the R.M. Court to-day, Williams, brewer, was proceeded against for breaches of the Beer Duty Act. Twenty-three informations altogether were laid by Officer Jackman. Mr Fell, Crown Prosecutor, of Nelson, conducted the prosecution. Defendant was found guilty on one charge of fraudulent entry, and as the charge wa3 laid under the 29th section of the Act, which provides a minimum penalty of £SO, the defendant was fined £75 and £ll coats. The other cases were adjourned until the 2nd May, when, if the fine is paid, the whole the charges pending will be withdrawn.
