The race between Charles Stephenson (ohamplon of New Zealand) and Neil Mat. terson, for £2OO a side, took place yesterday over the championship course. The New Zealander led from the start, winning easily in 22min 59j8ec. Sydney, April 1. A sculling match has been arranged between Thomas Sullivan (late amateur champion 'of New Zealand) and Charles Stephenson (the present professional champion of New Zealand) for a stake of £IOO, with a side wager of £IOO. The race takes place oa Monday, 27th inst., over the championship course. Gisborne, March 28. The annual race between the rowing representatives from Auckland and the crew of the Poverty Bay Rowing Club took place on the Taurehu river this morning. The course was two miles, with the tide running ont strong. The race was a splendid one, there being no daylight between the boats for the first mile. After that distance was traversed the local crew gradually drew ahead, and though Auckland made a splendid spurt they failed to come up on their opponents, who won by 2J lengths. Tim 6, 13min 43^sec. , Gisborne, March 30. Lovely weather was experiencedfor the holiday. The principal attraction was the regatta, which was witnessed by a large crowd of people. In the Maiden Gig Race the Poverty Bay Rowing Club beat the Union (Napier) R.C., also the Napier R.C. In the Under 103 b Gig Race Poverty Bay beat Napier, and Gisborne R.C. beat Poverty Bay. This was the only exciting gig contest, Gisborne winning by half a length, after a very tough struggle, the other wins being very easy victories. In the Senior Gigs Napier Unions beat Napier. Poverty Bay beat the Unions in the final heat. The Champion Sculls was won by W. Walter?, Poverty Bay. The visitors being defeated in their first heat. The Champion Whaleboat Race.—Poverty Bay won, Napier Union second. A splendid whaleboat race took place between two Native crews. The Yaoht Race was won by the Fedora, who came in second, beating Red Jaokeb on time allowance by B^aeo. Donedin, March 28. The Dunedin Rowing Club beat the Tirnaru Club by nine lengths.
