AN AUCKLAND SPENDTHRIFT.
(PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Auckland, March 27. The Supremo Court has been oconpied during the past two days in hearing an action brought by James Rae, pawnbroker, against Alfred Robert Greenway, a solioitor, for recovery of £448, alleged to be due on promissory notes and for jewellery sold. After a good deal of evidence had been taken, the case was adjourned till the 6th April. Tha defence was that Greenway was so intoxicated at the times of the various alleged transactions with Rae that he did not know what he was doing. The evidence showed that defendant was continually drunk, and it was stated that in 18 months he had spent £14,000. He is now in an asylum.
