EASTER SERVICES.

st. feter’s church. At St. Peter’s Church the Easter Day services were chloral throughout, with the exception of the Holy Communion celebration, which, unlike that in the other city churches, was without music. The Rev W. C. Waters was the preacher, and the music was as follows Morning—Preoes and Responses, Tallis (Festival); Easter Anthem, “ Christ our Passover ” (PelhamHumphreys) ; Psalms, Cooke, Rimbault and Humphreys ; Te Deum, York and Goss; Benediotus, Cobh, in E flat; Kyrie, Hoyte, iu D; Credo, Trimnell, in C; the usual Easter hymns. Evening :—Preces and Responses, Tallis; Psalms, Battishill, Gregorian, Goodson, and Walmsley; Canticles to Burnett’s Service in F ; Anthem, “ The Lord is my Strength ” (H. Smart) —soprano and tenor solos by Mrs Ashboltand Mr Hill respectively; Easter hymns ; Offertory, “I know that my Redeemer Liveth ” (“Messiah,” Handel), sung by Miss Katherine Hardy. There was also proceseional and recessional hymns. Mr Tallis Trimnell, Mus. Bac., presided at the organ. ST. PAUL’S CHURCH. The Rev F. Walker preached in the morn, ing at the above church on Sunday, and the Rev J. Still conducted the service in the evening. ST. mark’s church. The special services at St. Mark’s church on Sunday as usual, were fully choral. Tours’ Communion Service in F was sung throughout at the midday celebration, and in the evening the Canticles were taken to Tours’ Service in F, and the anthem “ Christ our Passover ” Is also by Tours, and was sung for the first time in Wellington. Tallis’ responses and Barnby’s Harmonised Confession was taken at the morning and evening services, as also processional and recessional hymns. There was also an early celebration of the Holy Communion at half-past seven in the morning. ST. MARY’S CATHEDRAL. The Cathedral was splendidly and appropriately decorated and Mr Mac Duff Boyd made special efforts in regard to the musical portion of the Easter services. In the morning Weber’s Mass in G was performed, with a small but efficient orchestra, under the leadership ol Mr E. E. Maginnity, with Miss Cimino at the organ. The soloists were Miss Maclean. Mrs Swift, and Messrs LoughnaD, MoManaway, Gamble, and Nairn. In the evening Miss Maclean sang Garcia’s " Salve Maria,” with violin obbligato, which has never before been heard in Wellington. His Grace Archbishop Redwood. presided on both occasions. ST. JOSEPH’S, BUCKLE STREET. At St. Joseph’s, Buckle street, solemn high mass was sung by the Rev Dr Watters (Rector of St. Patrick’s College), and in the evening service was held at 7 o’clock. The Rev Father Devoy preached on the latter occasion. The music was supplied by the College orchestra, under Mr Trowell, and the College choir, under Father Braxmier. ST. MARY OF THE ANGELS. At St. Mary of the Angels, Mass waß held at 7.30 a.m., solemn High Mass at 11 a.m., and Vespers were sung in the evening. The Rev Father Doherty officiated at the early Mass, and Rev Father Devoy at 11 a.m. The Churoh was beautifully decorated by the ladies of the parish. The music at the morning services was rendered by a full choir, and the Haydon’s First Mass was sung. In the evening, Ett’s grand choral Vespers was sung. The soloists were Mrs Connolly, Misses McCarthy, Ross, Rigg, Messrs Rowe (of Blenheim), Connolly and Dunne. Mr Cimino presided at the organ.
