OBITUARY.
CAPTAIN J. T. BOYD. Advices from Melbourne announce the sudden death of Captain Boyd, an old Otago resident, well known in Dunedin in the early days. He came of a military family, his father and brothers having been all in the service. When quite a lad he obtained a commission in the 11th Foot, where in consequence of his .youth ha was known by the soubriquet of “ Baby Boyd.” He came oat with his Regiment to Tasmania in charge ot convicts, and did duty at the vai'ious convict stations both there and in New South Wales for some yeais. He was then appointed Aide-de-camp to the Governor of Victoria, and shortly afterwards married Miss MartiD, daughter of the well known Dr Martin, of Heidelberg, near Melbourne, when he retired from the service. After his marriage he came across to Dunedin, and settled in the Opoho suburb there, purchasing at the same time the well known TVaipahi station. He was a popular and important figure in |tho.se days, as every old Otago resident will remember, and those of them who knew him will remember bis kindness, hia urbanity, his liberality, and bis warm-ht-arted generous nature—a eemal man. a gentleman “ sans peur set ssds reproohe.” Kequiescat in pace. We tender his wife and children our heat tfolt sympathy in their bereavement.
