BANQUET TO MR BRUCE.

(PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Marton, March 20. A complimentary banquet was given to Mr Bruce. ex-M.H.R., last night, and vyas a splendid success. Though tickets were issned at a guinea, about 200 gentlemen and a considerable number of ladies were present, lhe toast of the “ Guest of the evening’ was proposed by Mr Macarthur, M. 11.8. Mr Bruce received a perfect ovation on rising to respond, and his speech was considered a masterpiece of oratory. Messrs Bryce. Harlcness, Wilson and Duthie, M.H.R.’s, and Mr Menteath also spoke. Apologies were received from Sir J. Hall, Hon W. Kolleston, Messrs Scobie Mackenzie, Thomas Mackenzie, Fergus, G. F.Bichardson and Mitchelson, M.H.B.’s, the Hon. J. D. Ormond and a large number of other prommen tmen. . The assemblage was the largest and most representative ever seen in this part of the Colony.
