THE HOLIDAY.

On Tuesday the festival of St Patrick was observed as a holiday by the Government and Corporation offices, and the various banks in town. Sports were hold at the Park, and swimming races in the river, while horse races were held at Tologa Bay, A regatta is to be held here at Easter, at which crews from Auckland and Napier will compete. The banks were closed, and the principal attractions were the public festival noar Akaroa, the Heathcote Trotting Meeting, Caledonian sports at Amberley, besides numerous picnics. They marched there from St. Patrick’s Cathedral at the head of the children’s procession, and carried out a programme of races. &c., with great success.
