Dividends. —No. 2 Keep-it-Dark, Is ; Globe, 6d ; Cumberland, Is. Reports.—Big River—The manager reports for the week that Poole and party have extended the main level a further dis. tanco of 17ft, making a total of 117 ft. The ground has improved very much. During the last four days the country has changed from hard sandstone to nice soft slate. Four men are employed driving a crosscut, whioh

Is now in 23ft. The ground is a bit stiff at present, but that may soon change. The Inspector of Mines paid a visit, aud expressed himself well pleased with all the workings, and with the safety of the mine. United Alpine.—During the week Nos. 1 and 2 stopes in No. 7 level have been extended farther north a distance of 12ft. The reef at present is between 7ft and Bft wide. The reef in the upper intermediate level has now risen over head, and work has therefore been discontinued in that level. The stopes above this level present the usual appearance. The contractors in the sonth uprise have risen 10ft for the week. Tho reef is sft in width, and likely to make bigger yet. There has been no scraping of the plates, as the monthly cleaning up will take place to-day Inkerman.—The mine manager reports for the week :—The main shaft has been sunk 7Jft, or a total below No. 2 level of 31ft. No. 3 winze has been sunk 15ft, or a total below No. 2 level of 67ft. There is no change in the winze, except that the sinking is better. About 120 ft of stoping has been done. There is no change in the stopes. The new find in the north wiDze is down 18ft, aDd we have got stone 3Jft wide. Shew-

ing gold freely. I suggest that a surface drive be driven ahead in the north end of the winze. There is 147 ft to drive to the perpendicular of the winze. Driving in the tunnel is good, and stone expected at any moment. In the find sonth of the main Bhaft there is 3£ft of highly payable crushing stuff being got out. The formation gets thicker as it goes into the hill. Venus.—The mine manager reports for the week as follows :—Stone was struok in the main drive on Friday, Ift 3in thick, and will soon widen out. The drive is now 64ft north of the old stoping. The rise is up 21ft, with Ift of stone, showing gold freely, and water coming from it, and from the drive, Scotia.—During the week, the 9ft crosscutting ha 3 been done in the main level, where the old reef was lost, and the main level has been extended 4ft from wbere the contractors finished. Driving is in good country. Cnmberland.—The mine manager reports for the week that they have risen 10ft from the back of the bottom level, making a total of 19ft, and have connected with the upper workings. Commenced driving on Friday, and have driven 3ft, the reef being about Bft wide and of fair quality. The total distance on the course of the reef is 57ft from the fiat sheet. About eight fathoms of stoping has been done in the upper level, and all the stopes are looking well, averaging wide and the stone of good quality. Five hundred and forty-nine tons have been taken to the battery. Operations are temporarily suspended pending re-letting the contract for carting and repairs to the Drake receiving paddock. This done, carting will be recommenced, and I expect from 1200 to 1500 tons will be carted before another stoppage occurs.

Gallant.—The mine manager reports for the past two weeks as follows : I have cleared the south out crop, and prospected it for 60 feet in length. Can get gold in the stone, aud if it was sunk on it might prove remunerative. Cumberland saw business on Saturday night up to 3s Sd, holders being pretty firm. United Alpine. Return, 4160 zof retorted gold for four week’s crushing. Later. Cumberland cleaned np for 1003 oz of amalgam from 145 tons. March 3. An important discovery has been made in the United Devonshire ground. A reef, supposed to be the famous Anderson’s reef, lost some years ago, has been found on the surface, and is said to be between sft and 6ft wide and showing gold. It is to the westward of the old workings. per priss association.) Greymouth, March 1.
