FEDERATED TRADES & LABOUR COUNCIL.
A general meeting of the Federated Trades and Labour Council was held at Bakers’ auction rooms last night. There was a large attendance of delegates, and Mr Graham (President) occupied the chair. A large amount of correspondence was received and dealt with. Messrs Johnson, Hurlston, and Graham were appointed trustees for the Council. A committee was appointed to interview the timber trade with a view to forming a timber workers’ union here.
A deputation was appointed to wait upon the master butchers, in conjunction with a deputation from the Butchers’ Union, with reference to the adjustment of the “log.” A request ftom the Carpenters’ Union, of Palmerston North, asking the Council to Bend copies of rules, was acceded to. Consideration of a motion of which notice had been given that a paid secretary should be appointed, was adjourned for a fortnight. The Committee’s report with reference t® the standing orders waa read and adopted.
