WESLEYAN CONFERENCE.
(per press association.) Christchurch, January 21. The Wesleyan Conference met to-day, when the Rev J. Lewis was elected President. There are 7415 mombers, 198 churches, 19,275 Sabbnth scholars, 4932 attendants, 1373 communicants, and 676 junior members. At the Wedeyan arrangements were made to recei7 e deputations from the Ministers’ Association aDCi the United Methodist Free Church’s Dis* trict Meeting. It was resolved to send fraternal greetings to the Primitive Methodists, also to the Australian Annual Conference. The Rev Rothwell was received into full connexion. A long consideration took place on the status of home missionaries and their richt to administer the sacrament. It was resolved to adhere to the existing law on the subject. A committee was appointed to consider the question of ministerial transfers to other conferences. Cordial approval was given to the offer* °f service for foreign missions made by J] l6 Revs F. J. Wallis and S. B. Fellows the otteT of Mr Fellows to take effect in a year. The ReV J- was restored to regular work, Ftr m i ßS i° n was given to the Rev J. J. Mather to reS.t for a year to visit England. The report of tins probationers’ examination showed the foliowing average per centages j-rr-N.ewbold, 86 ; Blight, 81 ; J. Oughin, 69 ; Lewis, $3; Burrows, 80 ; Fellows, 90 ; Chapman, 88 ; Murray, 76. Reports of trial sermons were taken, and it was resolved that each one should pass in his year. Mr J. Oughin was set apart for Maori work, with permission to marry.
