A fair inquiry has existed for fruit, which has arrived from all parts. Sydney lemons are low, and the same may be said of Melbourne plums ; a quantity of apples from the latter city was condemned, as being affected with cod Jin moth ; Nelson apricots are in good demand, ai also are Auckland peaches, -rapes, and nectarines. Poultry is now without any demand, fowls offering at 2a 3d ; geese, 5s to 5s 6d ; duoks, 3s to 3s 6d ; turkey's, Gs 6d per pair. Messrs Edwards and Mcßeath report on the labour market :—We have been exceedingly busy during the week, and there is still a goo I demand. General servants are very scarce indeed. Freeman R. Jackson and Co.’s Johnsonvilie stock report:—Fat cattle came forward in usual numbers. The demand was less active than last week : prices therefore receded somewhat. Veal calves were dull of sale. Fat sheep in average supply ; sound, useful wethers, which, however, were rather uneven in size* being among those penned. Competition for this class of stock was also easier. Cattle —Bullocks, £4 12s 6d to £5 17s 6d ; average, £5. Veal calves, 5s 6d to 12s. Sheep—Fat wethers, 103 3d ; fat ewes, 7s 5d to 9s 2d ; 2-tooth breeding ewes, 8s 4d. Pigs—Large baconers, £2 to £2 10s; others, 28s to 355; good porkrrs, 20s ; large stores, 18s ; others, 13s 6d.
