VALUATION OF THE CITY.
The City Valuer, Mr J. Ames, completed the valuation of the city on Wednesday. The valuation for general purposes for the year IS9O-1891 amounts to £312,982, and for water rate £287,243. The valuation for the current year 1889-90 for general purposes amounted to £313,154, and for water rate £285,690. The general valuation shows a falling off of £172, whilst there is an increase of £1552 in the water rate. The following are the valuatfoas in each
The total number of new buildings erected during the year was 247, viz., 19 in Thorndon, 18 in Lambton, 97 in Te Aro, and 113 in Cook Ward. During the previous year 431 new buildings were erected as follows : —-Thcrndon Ward, 42; Lambton Ward, 68 ; Te Aro Ward, 175; Cook Ward, 146. The number of rateable properties in each ward areas follow Thorndon, 1110 ; Lambton, 1513 ;Te Aro, 2471 ; Cook, 2131. Notices of the valuation will be sent out at once, and the appeals will be.heard next month.
