A STRANGE SUICIDE.
(PROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) Reefton, January 14. Mr George Bannan, a settler aud store* keeper at Blaokwater, committed suicide yesterday morning at 4 o’clock. The de« ceased has been in a desponding state for some time, but his family never for a moment suspected that he contemplated selfdestruction. They knew that he had of late been harassed by pecuniary difficulties, but his wife thought from her knowledge of hia character that it was but temporary, and that he would settle down into his regular work. The melancholy act has almost paralysed the efforts of his wife. The deceased leaves a large and young family behind him.
