AQUATICS.

Oriental Boating Club. —Another heat of the Oriental Boating Club’s handicap nailing race took place on Saturday afternoon. The following boats started : —Aluritai, scratch ; lolanthe, scratch ; and Oriental, 3rniu. The course was from the Club's shed in Oriental Bay to the dolphin at the head of Evans Bay, and back to the starting point. The Muritai arrived home first, the Oriental 4min 30sec later. T>G InLutbe did not finish. The Aluritai tiJu-a first place, and the Oriental second. Mr L. B. Jordan acted as both starter aid judge. The final heat of the Club’s double sculls,

which was postponed from last month on account of the illness of a member, was rowed on Wednesday, when A. Hill (stroke) and W. Whitehouse (bow) easily defeated G. S. Hill, who rowed by himself owing to the absence of H. Pauli. The course was from the Club’s shed to the Magazine Point. The race was started by the Captain (Mr R. C. Renner), and judged by Mr C. Gell. At a Cornu ittee meeting it was decided to join the New Zealand Amateur Rowing Association. A series of rowing races is to be held toward the end of the present month. Star Boating Club- Tho following crews have been drawn for the Senior Club fours, to be rowed on Saturday, 25th inst. : W. E. Bondall (stroke), E. Jackson (3), C. J. Cooper (2), J. E. Smith (bow); A. JUBILEE REGATTA. A meeiing of the Jubilee Regatta Committee was held at the Council Chambers on Wednesday evening. Thera was a large attendance, aud Air E. W. Alills (vice-commodore of the Port Nicholson Yacht Club) occupied the chair. The Secretary of the New Zealand Amateur Rowing Association wrote pointing out that the races could not be rowed under the rules of the Association, as one rule states that no one can compete under its rules except members of the Association. It was resolved that the Ten oared Cutter Race should be removed from the rules of the Amateur Rowing Association, and that the men-of-war cutters be allowed to enter, and also that two corps be represented. Captain Faulkner wrote suggesting that men-of-war boats should be allowed to compete for the ten-oared cutter race. He thought unless they were allowed to enter the rece would fall through. The Committee decided to adopt v U ie captain’s suggestion. The Secretary reported that he had asked if H.M.S. Opal would remain here for the regatta, but up to the present he had received no reply. Also that he had written to the Secretary of the Harbour Board respecting barricading the wharves, and that the canvassing lists were not quite completed yet, but up to the present they were very satisfactory. It was resolved that two seahorse races should be added to the programme at LI each. The name of Captain Faulkner was added to the Water Sports Committee. It wa3 decided that in case of entries being insufficient to inn the event, the entrance moneys would be returned. Mr Martin undertook to place a flag upon the Koro-Koro buoy. Judges for the various races were appointed as follows :—Sailing—Messrs E. W. Mills, W. H. Quick, and Captain Grey. Rowing—Messrs Johnson, Rose, Brandon, aud Captain Falconer. The following w T ere elected patrons : His Excellency the Governor, Admiral Lord Charles Scott, and his Worship the Mayor. It was decided that if the Committee considered it necessary on account of failure of wind, or any other cause, the course shall be curtailed by only running twice round instead of three times. The signal in case of such alteration will be the number of flag denoting the race hoisted under tli6 “ white peter ” on the hulk appointed for the yachts to round opposite the Queen’s Wharf, one-third of the handicaps to be deducted accordingly. A gun will be fired five minutes before each race, and the starting-gun will be fired on the first stroke of the chimes and at the hours.

Messrs Johnson, Mills, Mee, and the Secretary were appointed a sub-committee to allot the trophies. The original resolution for a procession of yachts at 9 a.m. on the morning of the regatta was rescinded. It was decided on the motion of Air Batkin that itb6arecommendation to the Port Nicholson Yacht Club that rule 3 of the Port Nicholson Yacht Club be cancelled with a view to inserting rule 3 of the English Yacht Racing Association in its place, and that the first, second and third class yacht races on the Jubilee day be raced under the new rule. It wa3 decided that a gun should be fired at 9 a.m., which will indicate that the regatta will commence at 10 a.m. His Worship the Mayor, Captain Duncan, and Alessrs Levin, Cock, Brandon, Mills, and the Secretary were appointed a flag ship committee. It was decided to interview Captain Rose with a view to securing a flag ship. On the motion of the Sports Committee (Messrs A. G. Johnson and A. S. Paterson) the following programme was adopted ;—lsoyds swimming race, rescue competition, headers, water feat 3, general riielea by competitors, two aeahorso races (prizes LI each), three greasy poles for men (prizes, 15s each), ditto for youths (prizes, 10s each), one tub race (prize, 10s), one duck hunt (prize, 20s), two model yacht races (prizes, 10s each), black diamond race (prize, L2 ss), one bon and
