From all Bides come reports thjs last Christmas was the busiest gyer. in the district, and retailers in consequqn'ce are wellipleased. Now that ordinary business will be resumed after the holidays, there is every probability of considerable jtotivity, for the tone of trade is very brisk,
and the demand from retailers is considerably above the average. There is little or no alteration in pri-sea of any lines. STOCK SALES. DuNedin, January S. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company report (per Mr -D. •“ tronacli) as follows :—Cattle 387 J best bullocks, L 8 to L 8 15s ; others, L 4 10s to L 7 10s ; beef, ordinary, 15s to 17s 6d ; prime, 20s per lOOlbs. Sheep—33Bl ; beat cross wethers, 13s to 14s 9d ; ordinaiv, 9s 3d to 13i9d; best do. ewes, 10s 6d to 12s 3d ; ordinarj', 7s to 10a ; merino wethers, 9s 6d ; mutton, lid to 2d per lb ; 1349 lambs, 5» 6d to 10s 9d. Pigs—l4l ; suckers, 9s to 12s ; porkers, 26s to 32s ; baconers, 34s to 48s.
