DEATH OF MR W. ROBINSON, M.L.C.

(PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Christchurch, September 8. Mr W. Robinson, M.L.C,, who returned from his legislative duties on Thursday week, has been seriously ill since. On Saturday three doctors held a consultation and deemed all hopes of hi 3 ultimate recovery impossible. His heart is affected. To-day at noon he rallied slightly, but for a short time only. Christchurch, September 9. Mr Robinson died this morning. His life had been despaired of for the last two days.

The deceased gentleman was a storekeeper at Ballarat in the very early colonial days, and came to New Zealand in 1857, settling at first in Nelson. He was elected to the Nelson Provincial Council in 1858, and was called to the legislative Council in 1569. He held his seat in the last-mentioned Chamber up to the time of his death. Mr Robinson was for many years a leading sportsman, and at one time his stable was one of the finest in the Coiony. He is generally believed to be an enormously wealthy man. He leaves five daughters, of whom one is Mrs H. D. Bell, of this city.
