True, the programme was an attractive one, for were not the items reeking with auld Reekie from first to last, ? The skirl of the pipes alone would tempt a Scotch anchorite from his cell. The fourth annual concert of the Caledonian Society of Wellington must be written down as a pronounoed success. Mr J, Duthie. The stage was tastefully decorated with ferns and flags. At • the back a large banner bore the legend “ Wellington Caledonian Society,” below which was a pictorial bust of Robert Burr*** On each side stage w««~ ** ne “Auld n o„ aad ciShoulthae to onoultbae.” The programme was a long one. The part - songs by the chorus were given with thorough Scotch spirit, aud the veteran conductor, Mr - MoGlashan, led the orchestra Through d couple of most excellent overtures. Mr Widdop, who was in good voice, did full justice v to “The March of the Camertfn 1 Meo.”; Mrs Snaddon charmingly sang the* old favourite, “ Annie Laurifi.” Madame Louise' Thompson, who made ’her first pubhC appearance in Wellington last night, met with a most enthusiastic' reception. _ one has a spldndid voiefi, evidently Well trained, and was' heafd to great advantage in her songs, “‘Coining tlxrotigh, thd ' By®. •• an f s “Robin' Adair.’? The latter was encored so heUitny that the' fair responded' with ‘.‘.The lover and ttye hird. , One great Attraction w aa %nje Scotch dancing hy the Masses Laing, Thompsop, McKenzie, (2), Messrs ifoDopald, McArthur, Ring (2), with pipe music by dances received a well deserved encore. Stereos, brought down the no"— response Mr Patersmto an am— 5 , -■»«>» a “ d m _ u reated the audience sketch, “Cuddle Doon,” .iicten by Alexander Anderson, better known by his nom de plume of “ The Surfaceman,” a modern Scotch poet of some renown. Mr MoGlashan played m good style a oharming violin solo and fantasia on Scotch airs, specially arranged for this concert by himself. Mr Laing danced the Highland fling and Mr McKay executed a sword dance in splendid time between the two parts of the programme. Mrs Dunlop acted as accompanist and Mr John J sical drector. The concert concluded by tno audience singing “Auld lang syne.”
