THE CHRYSANTHEMUM SHOW.

TO THE EDITOR OF THE NEW ZEALAND MAIL. Sir, —Seeing that Mr F. Cooper has publicly stated his grievance re late show, with your permission I would like to have a word or two. At a general meeting of chrysanthemum growers, held soon after

last year’s shpw, a committee was appointed to draw up a schedule and submit tome to the next general meeting, which wan done and the schedule approved of, with instructions to the secretary to have schedule printed ank circulated, which was done .publicly, and not privately, as stated by Mr Cooper. And with regard to his blooms being over-blowD, others might,, have said the same ; yet every -grower except Mr Cooper, and one or two over whom he has absolute control exhibited cut flowers to the satisfaction of all. The netion of the Committee in altering the date of the show was approved by a very large majority of exhibitors, and under the circumstances was absolutely unavoidable, and so far as the Committee’s injudicious hole-and-corner work is concerned, probably Mr Cooper may understand such tricks, but the Committee do not, and the Tom, Dick and Harrys have proved themselves just the boys to run a chrysanthemum show, and I have no hesitation in saying tli© CominifctGO will do in the future as they have done in past—net study the interest of single individuals but- exhibitors generally, bo as to make the show a success ; and. the success of the late show and the general satisfaction it gave to the pjblic is positive proof that the Committee acted in the right, irrespective of what Mr Cooper might think or do. . I question whether there is another man in the Colony, under the circumstances, who would have acted as Mr Cooper has done during the late /show. It may not be generally known that during the last two years, for reasons best known to himself, Mr Cooper has not been able, to work with the majority of the Committee, and the tone of Mr Cooper’s letter is positive proof that he is aggrieved to think the show was , a success, both as. regards quality and quantity, without his assistance ; and no doubt future shows will be the same. The majority must rule.—-I am, &c., HOKTICULTUItIST.
