A WISE PRECAUTION.

The Harbour Board have

acted very wisely in instructing their Engineer to

report upon the best means for taking precautionary steps against drowning accidents along the Te Aro reclamation. The condition of the breastwork between the Wellington Rowing Club’s sheds and Clyde-quay is undoubtedly very dangerous, not only because the metal near the edge is rough and unsafe, but also because a person who happened to fall into the water in that locality in rough weather would have very great difficulty in finding anything along the breastwork to cling to or to climb up. There is reason, indeed, to doubt whether the unfortunate man Thompson, who was drowned some little time ago, did not meet with his death because he found nothing to assist him at the breastwork. At any rate, if he was washed against the wall of the reclamation, he could not have got out. We hope, therefore, that the Board will now lose no time in taking every possible precaution against further accidents.
