AUCKLAND TRAMWAYS.

(PER press ASSOCIATION.) Auckland, April 29. At the annual meeting of the Auckland Tramway Company to-day, the Chairman (Mr J. W. Clark) stated that the Directors ■had endeavoured to get rid of the land held by the Company. It was apparent that while the land might ultimately recover its value, the Company were not strong enough to hold it UDtil that time—in fact, the land was in reality crushing the Company. As regards the future policy of the Company, the Directors had to admit that they did not see their way unless something turned up iu the shape of a new motive power. They saw no prospect of success, and therefore j. they had no recommendation to make. At present the Company was in reality living on sufferance, but if allowed to go ou the Directors would endeavour to put it on a better footing. They had endeavoured to make some arrangements for the running of the cars by electricity. The balance-sheet was adopted.
