The only public amusement was the military sports, in which the Timaru Artillery Rifles aud Cadets, Ashburton and Geraldine Rifles, C.Y.G. Christchurch Engineers, and E.. Battery took part. A long programme of exercises was gone through, winding up with a sham light, the whole of which passed off successfully. There was a good attendance in spite of the counter attractions at the adjoining towns on the railway. Christchurch, December 26. The Cyclists’ Alliance one-rpfle championship was won by N. Hall (Pioneer), 1; H. A. S.oanes (Christchurch), 2 ; A. C. \Yilmot (North Canterbury), 3.. S. R. Steadman (Dunedin) started, but finished last. Hall won by half a length, after a good race. Time, 2min fiO 4-ssec. The one mile interprovinoial handicap was . won by U.
