Mb T. Kennedy Macdonald may fairly be congratulated upon his meeting Monday night. It was an influential and representative one, aDd was disposed to scrutinise closely and criticise keenly the account of himself given by the ex-candidate for the mayoralty. Mr Macdonald, however, disarmed his critics bv the candour and frankness of hi 3 statement. He did not lay claim to \any superhuman patriotism, but put his case honestly to hia hearers that he
could not have carried through the Mayoralty contest without incurring losses and expenses which he did not feel justified in undertaking, especially as a doubt existed in the minds of two lawyers, at any rate, as to his qualification for a seat on the Harbour Board. His explanation was a fhir and reasonable one, and was well received. His remarks on municipal matters were very interesting, but pressure on our space precludes any detailed reference' to them, on the present occasion.
