WANGANUI NEWS.

(FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) Wanganui, October 4. At a meeting of the creditors of P. F. Tardiff, “gentleman,” to-day, the debtor’s solicitor made an offer on behalf of Mr Tardiff to pay all the creditors in full, with the exception of one firm that had distrained for debt. To this proposal there was a vigorous opposition on the part of the creditors, who thought it most unfair, as there was every evidence that strong opposition would be shown to the debtor, and the Official Assignee had stated his intention of insisting on a public examination, with a charge of obtaining goods without reasonable means of paying for them. The “ gentleman ” reconsidered his position, and got an adjournment till Monday, to enable him to consult his wife. The Taranaki team of footballers have sent a challenge to the Wanganui representatives in consequence of the latter’s score against the Englishmen, and offer to pay all expenses of tho team: October, tho 13th (Saturday), is the date fixed for the match between the Alexandra Cavalry and the Wellington City Rifles. Miss von Finkelstein is drawing good houses here, and has extended her season for another night. The cricket season opens here on Saturday, and there is every likelihood of more interest being shown in the game this year than for several seasons.
