MEETINGS.
WELLINGTON CITY COUNCIL
The usual fortnightly meeting of the City Council was lielcl in the Council Chambers last week. There were present the Mayor, Councillors Richardson, Smith, Williams, Petherick, Heaton Allen, J. Young, Edwards, Brandon and A. Young. A letter from the Melrose Borough Council, giving the Council notice that they must cease, within two. months, to deposit rubbish and night-soil within the Borough of Melrose, was referred to. the Public Works Committee, A letter was read from the Wades,town Road Board asking if the Council would pay cuiohaif the cost of filling up a dangerous part of the road near the Corporation boundary, The cost, it was stated, would be about L 7. The Council agreed to pay one half tho cost, _ Mr J--1% minor wrote asking the Council to pass a resolution granting him permission to oarry out certain alterations at the rear of Barrett’s Hotel, which, he pointed out, had been objected to by the City Engineer, as they did not come within tho strict letter of the building regulations. After some discussion permission was granted to Mr Plimmer to carry out the alteration. The reports of the Public Works C®mmitte and Inspector of Nuisances were read and adopted. The City Surveyor s usual report was laid on the table. Accounts amounting to L 1730 Is 2d were passed for payment.
