HAWKES BAY AGRICULTURAL SHOW.
(per press association.) Napier, October 5. The annual show of the Agricultural and Pastoral Society was attended by about 5000 people. The show of sheep was magnificent, nearly all being looaliy bred, and where the local came into competition with the imported stock, the former beat in every case. The principal prize-takers were Messrs Douglas McLean, manager of the Melbourne station, and Royce aud Anderson, in long wools ; T. Tanner was most successful in Lincolns, followed by J. N. Williams, H. R. Russell, J. D. Ormond, F. Sutton, R. Cobb, of Canterbury, took several, prizes in the Romney Marsh classes, but R. Harding was the most successful exhibitor. In thoroughbreds the show was very poor, the championship going to Stoneyhurat, Draught stock were fairly numerous and of splendid quality, Mr Ormond’s Blackleg took the championship. The show of haoks and miscellaneous horses was exoelleat. Iu shorthorns, H. R. Russell’s Duke of Elderslie, bred by Reid, of Oamaru, took the ohampionship. The show of young cattle was excellent. Implements were only on the ground for exhibition, no prizes being given.
