(FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) WANGANUI, September 28. The young fellow Caine, who was killed at Upokorango last night, frightened his hcvrse by striking a match to light his pipe. The horse bolted, and when Caine’s companion reached him he found him lying unconscious on the road. He never recovered consciousness, Mr Peter Bell declines to contest the .mayoralty. It is rumoured here that a Wanganuite, who is now at Mahakipawa, has made £3OO within the last few days out of hia claim. The Heads Railway Company have decided by a resolution to form a new company with a capital of £4OOO te take over the concern. The idea is that by releasing the company of the bank overdraft of £3OOO, the saving in interest will enable the line to be worked at a profit. Most of the present shareholders have agreed to double their shares. Wanganui is not likely to be largely represented at the Melbourne shooting, as Purnell, Churton and Remington, three champions, and Foster and Hughes (silver medal men) oannot get away. The Railway Department state that the traffic in live stock on this section has been as great ,for the last two weeks as in any six weeks before.
