ANOTHER VESSEL ASHORE.

(PER press association.) Blenheim, August 10.

The Union Steam Ship Company’s agent has received a telegram from the Wairau bar that a barque is ashore at the White Bluffs, and that the steamers Kanieri and Waibi are assisting to tow her off. The vessel’s name is not known. 10.14 a.m. Some time last night the barque Kate Tatham, of Napier, grounded under the White Bluff, Cloudy Bay. The steamer Kanieri is now helping her off. The s.s. Waihi is coming up the river from the scene of the accident with further particulars. The Wairau bar pilot does not report loss or damage. 11.30 a.m. The s.s. Kanieri has left the barque and gone on to "Wellington. She took on board some of the vessel’s effects. The barque does not seem to labour heavily. The sea is moderate and the weather fine. The vessel lies about 24 miles from the Wairau bar. The mate "and crew of the ill-fated vessel, with the exception of the captain and boatswain, arrived here by the steamer Kanieri yesterday afternoon. The mate States that the vessel struck about 6 o’clock ou Thursday evening, at which time the weather was very thick. He further states that the lead was hove a few minutes before the vessel went ashore, aud a depth of seven fathoms was found. The crew stuck to the vessel until taken off by the Kanieri yesterday morning. Up till the time when he left the barque she had sustained very little damage, but should a heavy gale spring up she would probably' break up. The barque, which was owned by Messrs Tait and Mills, of Napier, was built at Greenock in 1863. Her dimensions are— Length, 13Sft 7in ; breadth, 23ft lin : depth, 12ft Gin.
