EXCITING- WHALING DISASTER.

ONE MAN DROWNED. (PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Gisborne, August 10. This morning at Porotalcino, some miles north of Gisborne, five Maori whaleboats were out in chase of a school of sperm whales when one monster rushed the boats. One boat was smashed to atoms and another was stove in and sank. One of the crew of the first boat sank and was seen no more, and two other men were severely injured. The occupants of the boats vshfch were sunk were picked up or managed to get ashore. The Natives succeeded in capturing and landing on the beach three whales.
