PITONE LICENSING COMMITTEE.

The first quarterly meeting of the Pitone Licensing Committee was held at the office of the Town Board, Pitone, on Saturday at noon. Present —Messrs Cook (chairman), Henry, Collett, Frazer, and Curtis. Mr Edmond Battersby applied for a license for the Empire Hotel, Jackson-street, containing 15 rooms, newly erected. Mr H. Fitzherbert appeared for Mr Battersby. Mr Skerrett objected to the license being granted on behalf of some residents who did not think that an hotel in that neighbourhood was needed. After hearing all the evidence for and against, which lasted for over two hours, the benoh decided to give their decision after hearing the other applications. Mr Thomas Oxenham applied for a license for the. Yi ctona Hotel, at the corner of Victoria and Jackson-streets, the property of Mr Joseph Jamison, containing 6 rooms. Mr Jellicoe appeared for Mr Oxenham, and Mr Thompson for the owner. Mr Skerrett raised the same objections aB in the first case.

Mr David Leahy applied for a license for the Pitone Hotel, corner of Fitzherbert and Jackson-streets, the property of David Williams, containing 13 rooms. Mr Bunny appeared for Mr Leahy.. Mr Skerrett ob. jecting on the same ground as before. Mr Stansell applied for a renewal of license for the Marine Retreat Hotel, Pitone. —Granted.

The Bench after carefully considering the three new applications, and inspecting all the buildings, deoided to adjourn for a week to give the final decision next Saturday at noon.
