LAMBTON LICENSING COMMITTEE.
Tjje annual njeeting of the Lambton Licensing’ Corpmittee was held the Supreme Court Buildings on Monday at noo>, there hsing present Messrs Hayes . (chairman), Young, Willeslon, Tiimey, and Goldsmith. The police were represented by Inspector Thomson. Application for icnevvals with extension of hours to 11 p.m., were granted as follows Jas. Prosser, Branch Hotel • • W. G. Johnston, Wavevley Hotel; D M. Drr. City Buffet;' Benjamin Blower, Queen’s” Hotel ; " H. 'Sullivan, National ■Hotel; J. R‘. Riley, Post Qffice Hotel ; Hamilton Gilmer, Empire Hotel ; Thomas White, gtgrHqtelj Jane Ormsbee, Central Hotel; Annie Smith, Commercial Hotel; Jacob Liohtscheindl, Club Hotel; p; Moeller, Occidental Hotel, With regard to tho application of Miss EFielding, Ryland’s Hotel, Inspcotor Thomson stated that the accommodation of tho hotel was very limited. The application was granted, as the lease had only about t.vo years to run. It was iutimated, however, that if the house was nob rebuilt then, the Committee, if on the Bench, would refuse to grant.the Ucoiise. Henry Knight applied for a renewal of the license of the Melbourne Hotel. Inspector Thomson said the police had called attention to the dingy appearance of the building and to tho absence of fire escapes. The hotel, however, had been repainted and means of escape in case of fire provided, and therefore the police would make no objection. The application was granted. Ip the case of Mrs F. Townspud, Ship Hotel, Inspector Thomson informed the Gommittep that the applicant had that morping bepn fined for allowing gambling ip her bouse, Mr Bunny, who
appeared for tho applicant, said that a fine had heen imposed on his client owing to a technicality. He assured the Committee that the hotel would be well conducted iu future. The Chairman said there was too much of this sort of thing going on. Dice-throwing was indulged in in almost every hotel in the city, and it would have to be put a stop to. The application was granted. With regard to Mr J. L. Kimbell’s application for arenewal of the license of tho Pier Hotel, Inspector Thomson informed the Bench that the accommodation of the house, considering its prominent site, was insufficient. Mr W. B. Ed wards, who appeared for the owner of the premises, gave an assurance that the hotel would bo enlarged in about eighteen months’ time. The Committee granted the application. This was all the business.
