STAB CRICKET CCUB.

The annual meeting of the members of the Star Cricket Club was held at Bowley’s rooms, Cuba-street, Friday night. There was a good attendance of members, and Mr Tustin occupied the chair. The annual report and balance-sheet were read. In presenting their annual report and balance-sheet, the Committee regretted that it was not a satisfactory one. Twenty-one matches had been played, of which eight were won, nine lost, and four drawn. The first eleven played .five matches, winning three and losing two, Qf fifteen matches, three were for the Senior Cup, of which one was lost. The second eleven played eight matches, of which three were w.on, four lost, and one drawn. Of those matches, three were for the Junior Cup, two of which wore won and one lost. It would be seen tljat the Club were runners-up for both Cups, as every other club other than the ultimate winner was beaten twice, whereas both the Club’s teams were only beaten once. .The third eleven played eight matches,

winning two, losing four, and four were drawn. As to the play, it was to be regretted that the position the Club attained was due more to individual than general excellence. In the first- eleven, Moorliouse took the batting trophy (presented by Mr Haybittle) with an average of 39 T 6, a really fine average, of which he may well be proud. In bowling, Roberts liad the best average with 20 wickets, at a cost cf 7TO runs per wicket ; Dryden being well up with 24 wickets, at an average of 8 - 20 per wicket. In the second eleven, Remington took the trophy presented by Mr W. G. Tustin for batting, his average being 19 "87 for 10 innings. In bowling, S. Roberts won- Mr A. W. Brown’s trophy with 24 wickets, at an average of 5‘24 runs jier wicket, one of the best junior averages in Wellington ; E. W. Sanderson had the best analysis, but is debarred from the trophy, as he did not bowl the required number of balls. The play of the members had not been up to expectations nor their true form. In the Second Eleven, however, an improvement had been shown, especially in batting. Financially the Club was about the same as it was last year. Owing to the Association hilving doubled the ground fees, and the committee having had a heavier expenditure than was anticipated, they have not been able to reduce the debt, but would point out that the Club had good assets for the amount they were behind, as there is a large stock of material on hand. In putting the practice ground in order LI 7s had been expended. The best thanks of the Club were due to Messrs Tustin and Haybittle for their pecuniary help to the Club. The committee begged to bring under notice an intended alteration in rule 4, providing thatthe entrance fee should be ss, to be paid on nomination, otherwise the candidate would not be balloted for. Last season no fewer than 16 gentlemen were proposed and duly elected, some of whom, after playing a few evenings, found that they could not attend regularly, and of course did not subscribe. With regard to the prospects for the coming season, the committee regret that the Club will lose the services of Moorhouso and Roberts, the former having joined the Phoenix Club, and the latter having removed to Christchurch. In conclusion, the Committee felt assured that if the members would only practice diligently the Club would be the premier Club of the city. The balance-sheet showed that the expenditure was £lOl 2s 3d, and the receipts £lOl 10s 6d. It was stated that the outstanding subscriptions amounted to £7. On the motion of Mr Coe, seconded by Mr J. Gooder, the report and balance-sheet were adopted. The presentation of the trophies mentioned in the report, with the exception of Mr Moorhouse’s, was then made by the Chairman, the receipients replying. As Mr Moorliouse was not present it was decided to take the first opportunity of presenting him with his trophy. The election of officers then took place, and resulted as follows ? President, Mr G. Fisher-; Vice-Presi-dents, Messrs W. G. Tustin, C: G'odber, and F. W. Haybittle.. (all re-elected) ; Captain, Mr J. W. Brown ; Practice Captain, Mr Dryden ; Secretary and Treasurer, Mr J. Coe; Committee, Messrs J. Gooder, Dryden, and Littlejohn ; Delegates to the Association, Messrs W. G.. Tustin,’ Mansill, and the Secretary. A hearty vote of thanks was awarded to Mr Duff, the retiring secretary and treasurer.A vote of thanks to the Chairman concluded the meeting.
